PARTS OR DIVISIONS OF LEHENGA CHOLI

Lehenga Choli is divided in three parts:

1.The Top: Choli

2. The Bottom:  Lehenga / Ghaghra

3. The Dupatta / Odhni / chunni / Chunaria

1. CHOLI / BLOUSE

The blouse or the choli is a woman's upper item of clothing like a shirt, classically with a neck, buttons, and sleeves. Daily wear  Lehangas / ghagras have a simple cotton blouse while party-wear & festive wear lehengas have different materials with embroidery, zari work, diamond work, prints and other embellishments to enhance its beauty.

The blouse is typically half-sleeves, but many women customize it according to their preference like full sleeves, threeforth or a more glamorous sleeveless one.

Another alteration that  is made in the look of the blouse is by changing the neckline. Most common neck lines are round (u), v etc. It  can be further changed according to the imagination of the wearer or the designer.

The back of the blouse can be made with different designs like the backless and other blouse designs.

The third and the very important part of this dress is the dupatta. Although it is not a compulsory part of the Lehenga Choli but most ladies wear a dupatta with a Lehenga Choli. The Dupatta is big rectangular piece of fabric, worn around the head,  shoulders and for covering the front portion of women’s body. It is like a scarf but quite bigger in size.  Previously it was  used to cover the head for decency and modesty but nowadays it is used a fashion statement.
